Collagen Calling
Collagen, I’m sure you’ve heard of it somewhere, and unfortunately that somewhere may have been a Kardashian media post. The use of the macromolecule has reached mass scale as a beauty product, a restorative, the quest for eternal youth solved with collagen cream. But what is it exactly?
To put it simply, it’s a protein. Not just a protein, but it’s THE protein. Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body comprising 25%-35% of protein content. You can find it anywhere really, tendons, ligaments, muscle, the organic component of bone (yes, it lives) and of course skin.
It has magic properties, not the anti-aging kind….well kind of , but more important those that fight gravity, friction, and shearing of tissues, they give our body the structural support and integrity. The most magical part of it, it’s adaptable, it can change how it aligns itself, how it forms based upon we we ask it to do. This becomes a major principle for injury, rehabilitation and performance. Its role will be explored on this blog.
