Breath work
Right now I am reading an interesting book by James Nestor, it’s titled “Breath: the new science of a lost art” and it does bring into light some fascinating ways that the human body can adapt. One such story within the book is of Katharina Schroth, who applied mechanics of breathing and postural correction to cure her own scoliosis and then develop her methods which is a mainstay to scoliosis treatment today. The whole book is largely about training the breath, techniques of breathing, some applied physiology, and the health benefits of which are largely overlooked and under-appreciated. As a physiotherapist I find it interesting to see themes being applied over and over, we are highly adaptable beings, taking to time to invest in your own body’s mechanism, and aiming to improve them will be worth it in the health benefits, and if not the journey and process alone.
