Posturing
I was recently asked to participate in the making of a youtube video. The idea of the video is based on a challenge to correct posture, my role was to assess and develop a program to improve the posture of the individual. To be honest this is a bit out of my comfort level. The scope and depth in assess posture can be a rabbit hole, particularly that there is not much support for stating that posture is correlated with pain. In my physiotherapy practice, I don’t spend anytime focussing on posture, its largely making certain that an individual does not have disfunction or pain with their meaningful tasks. In fact I largely stay clear from treating posture as often times it can be misleading for clients causing them to focus on something that doesn’t matter in regards to why they are in pain - its one of many aspects which influence pain. And all of this is not to say that posture is untrainable, or not necessary to focus on, it is- but it is not the highest return for helping someone in pain.
