Adaptations
Right now is a difficult time, COVID-19 has forced a lot of people to adapt their day to day activities, change plans, cut out social activities and reschedule major life events. The good news is that we are very good at adapting. Hans Selye is arguably the first to discover human adaptation to stress in developing the general adaptation to stress response. Simply put, a stressor can lead to changes in the body and system making that stressor less provocative. This is a founding principle in physiotherapy, to introduce an appropriate amount of exercise to lead to change. Obviously COVID has been far more disruptive than simple physio exercises , and I am hoping that we are truly adapting and not succumbing to exhaustion.
