Im currently reading a book about the perils of unchecked greed, moral decay and capitalism, against a backdrop of ambition and scientific innovation. Any guesses as to what this book could be? Well it could be any non-fiction or fiction really. This particular book is about the development and rise of commercially viable drugs, the marketing behind them and the wealth that was gained for the individual leading those efforts. But there is more, there is significant and deliberate neglect when it comes to identifying and restricting these drugs due to the side effects. One of these side effects is not to be understated it is…… addiction. Any guesses to what this book is now?
The whole book has me thinking about health. What it is , how we as individuals and a society define it. How we work or don’t work to obtain and support it. How there are gate keepers to the knowledge of developing and supporting health and also how it has devolved into becoming a commodity. Before we consume more products and pills, are there other ways for health to be obtained and complimented?
