Longevity
I have been really enjoying watching the “Lost Tapes” series on professional surfer Kelly Slater’s 2019 competitive season. Its an 11 part series showcasing him in the World Surf leagues world cup series. From stunning locations, the warm ups, cool downs, competition highlight, and lifestyle its a 20 minute look into each event. The thing that is most interesting to me is that at this time , Kelly is 47 years old. He is demonstrating some kind of longevity to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving action sport. No doubts about it, you are watching some generational talent. In addition to this talent what is giving Kelly or any one for that matter the ability to participate at a high level. Is it the Nutrition? Perhaps the strength and conditioning? The coaches? The board builders? Sports Psychology ? How about Culture of the sport? In all reality it is all of these things, they all contribute. Through out the episodes, only 4 have been released so far , Kelly repeats that he doesn’t want age to be a factor and seems to despise people bringing it up.
I find this so fascinating as one of the mantras of my practice is to keep people moving participating in their meaningful activities for life. There is a lot that our bodies do for us, and there is a lot we can do for our bodies to keep participating well into our years. if you have a moment have a watch of one the episodes.
